The main hero is Sea Kelp Extract (a powerful antioxidant), which helps battle against the free radicals and toxins we get exposed to nearly everyday in our modern world.
Beyond being inspired by the power and beauty of nature, Lalumi is also animal & cruelty free.
The Hairstylist and the Restaurateur
It begins during the height of the pandemic, with two family members trying to navigate what was next with so much uncertainty in the air - a Hairstylist (the Aunt) and a Restaurateur (The Niece).
Both Aunt and Niece, with currently lots of time on their hands with their businesses mandated to temporarily be closed, began to visualize a future where maybe neither of their businesses would possibly reopen.
Surrounded by the serenity and lushness of the Pacific Northwest Rainforest, they talked about the current shortages happening from the shipping crisis and realized how much we leaned on foreign production and importation.
With the realization that these products were being made in far away places and being shipped, flown, and trucked to storefronts and warehouses, they began to wonder if there was a better solution.
They investigated a particular product that they used often and were not able to purchase during this time, which was toning shampoo. Toning Shampoo helps remove yellow tones from blonde and grey hair.
As they dug deeper, not only were there no toning shampoos being produced in North America, as well the ingredient list of the most sought after brands were full of unnecessary and harmful ingredients.
Another problem they faced was that the more safe to use versions weren't pigmented enough to actually provide real results. They decided this was a problem that they wanted to fix.
A Toning Shampoo is Born
While businesses were still closed, they begin experimenting and sourcing, working with a Chemist to make sure they get the formulas just right. They began to create a powerful toning shampoo with purple pigment. So much pigment, that they realized it wasn't so much 'purple', but could be described as 'silver', since it had the ability to turn yellow-toned hair a silvery-ash if used too often. Hence, the name Intense Silver Toning Shampoo was born.
But they weren't completely satisfied. They didn't want just an effective, non-harming product, but also one that was reflective of the refreshing west coast rainforest near the ocean that they both enjoyed.
So on they went with mixing concoctions of scents that may satisfy their idea of their surroundings: an improvised but alluring melange of Warm Clove, Eucalyptus, Lavender, and Rosemary extracts. The result is a fragrant mix that has remnants of that invigorating and luxurious sense one gets while at a spa, but simultaneously surrounded by a lush rainforest. They were finally satisfied with their first product.
The Moral of The Story
The collaboration to create something new together came from the joint passion of making beautiful, tangible moments. From hairstyles & highlights to the pleasurable moment of food with company in a curated environment, now co-founder's, the Aunt & the Niece, started their journey to bring you Lalumi.
